Through our Dutch partner AquaMinerals ValoDirect has a large-scale service provision on offer for finding new purposes for by-products from waste water treatment and drinking water production. AquaMinerals is the joint venture in the water sector with Dutch and Belgian water companies being the shareholders such as ‘De Watergroep’, but a lot of Dutch water boards too. Said joint venture gives a second life to by-products from waste and drinking water processing.
By subcontracting these by-products to specialized partners such as AquaMinerals and ValoDirect the water sector increases its own efficiency and reduces its ecological footprint.
One of said by-products concerns ferruginous drinking water sludge or iron (hydr)oxide. One of this product’s characteristics is that it binds and neutralises the corrosive sulphur formed during fermentation processes on the basis of the following reaction:
Fe₂O₃ + 3 H₂S = Fe₂S₃ + 3 H₂O
2 Fe(OH)₃ + 3 H₂S = Fe₂S₃ + 6 H₂O
Iron sludges from drinking water production are not supplied as a waste product but instead as a resource for fermentation processes and comply with the European REACH-legislation.
